Today we BEAT AS ONE for Casual Day 2026 – showing our support for persons living with disabilities and the organisations and people who make a difference in our communities.
The Municipal Chamber Choir brought the voices, the Camphill School marimba band brought the beat, and our firefighters brought the 🔥 as they tackled a Toughest Firefighter Alive training challenge ahead of next month’s competition.
With stickers sold in support of the Overstrand Association for Persons with Disabilities in Hawston, Zwelihle and Mount Pleasant, as well as Camphill School in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, this afternoon was about more than just wearing Casual Day stickers.
It was about coming together, having fun and beating as one – because rhythm matters.

Mayor Klaas said he would train with them. Today, he kept his word.
As part of Women’s Month during August, Overstrand Reservist Firefighter Coleen Johnson shared how our firefighters are putting in the hours to prepare for the annual Toughest Firefighter Alive competition, taking place in George in early October.
Executive Mayor Alderman Archie Klaas said he would like to join the crew for one of their training sessions.
Today, during Casual Day, he did exactly that.
Let’s just say… it’s not nearly as easy as the firefighters make it look.
A big salute to the entire Overstrand Fire & Rescue team for the hard work they put in every day, both in training and on the frontline.
